When trying to send money abroad, you may have to pay fees, including a sending fee, receiver fee and foreign exchange rates charge. The amount you will have to pay depends on:

  • Where you are sending the money
  • The amount you are sending
  • How you are sending the money – via cash, debit card, credit card or bank account
  • How the money is received – cash or bank account
  • How quickly they want to receive the funds

These can quickly add up, so its important to compare all options. Use our guide below to find out how much it costs to wire money internationally and how Money Services can help.

What is the cheapest way to send money abroad?

The most cost-effective way to send money abroad is through a money transfer service, such as Money Services, which you’ll find at Kroger stores.

Sending money online

Sending money abroad online through our Money Services website offers more convenience, privacy and accuracy, than going in store. However, you will need to wire the money using a card or bank account.

All our money transfers are powered by Western Union®, who aim to make their online services as straightforward and secure as possible. Use their handy online app to see a clear breakdown of the different costs for transferring money to your chosen destination.

Sending money in store

If you prefer to send cash, the easiest way is to transfer it from a store.

Visit your nearest Money Service location and our helpful store associates will be on hand to guide you. Just give them the receiver’s details, location and the amount you wish to send, and they’ll give you a unique ten-digit Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

Make sure to give this number to the receiver - they’ll need the MTCN and require identification to collect the cash from one of Western Union’s 500,000 pick-up locations.
