Everyone has bills to pay. No matter how much of a pain it can seem, they need to be paid to keep your electricity on and your cell working.

There are all sorts of different bills that need covering. It can cause all sorts of problems if you are late with your payments or – even worse – forget about them completely. Being organized and knowing that there’s a simple way to settle your bills takes all the stress away.

Whether you have a bank account or not, prefer card or cash, there’s a way to stay on top of your bills that suits you.

How to pay a bill with a credit card

Paying bills with a credit card can be an easy way to earn rewards and get your bills in order. You won’t be charged interest if you can pay off your balance in full at the end of the month.

Start with a balance of zero on your credit card, paying off existing credit card bills first. This stops you paying more interest fees than you need to. At the same time, keep enough money in your checking account to cover the credit card payments in full when due.

Bills you can usually pay with a credit card include:

  • Cell phone
  • Cable
  • Internet
  • Utilities

However, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to pay your rent or mortgage with a credit card.

Using your bank account to pay bills

You can efficiently use your bank account to cover many types of bills by setting up direct debits and standing orders. This can be a quick way to make sure you don’t miss any deadlines. Once you’ve set it up, you don’t need to think about paying your bills as long as everything stays the same.
